concepts, photo, video, production

Details:

Project: Editorial photography and video project
Roles: Creative Director, Art/Video Director, Designer
Clients: Pixelfire Productions, JVC Headphones, JVC Japan, New York Times Square

I was hired to play a lot of roles including concepting, designing, and directing for this boutique studio project.

1

CREATIVE DIRECTION and ART DIRECTION

The primary budget for this project was for editorial photography. From this, we were asked to piggy-back a secondary video execution and Pixelfire included me as an all-in-one creative to also handle that. I created and presented several rounds of concepts for the video and photography needs for OOH and web. Continual client engagement and communication involved careful planning of details, casting, wardrobe, re-working concepts and thinking through creative decisions aligned from mood boards, style frames, and initial designs which the client had to choose from. Leveraging client style direction proved to be a large time saver.

2

VISUAL CONCEPT | MOTION DESIGN | PRODUCTION

I offered several creative options that fell in-line with what the client was asking for from simple to complex. Visually, I wanted a space theme that felt like a micro-world on the headphones combined with EDM. I put together visual storyboards and style frames to help sell the direction. Editorial didn't need to mirror the video direction since it was going to be for multiple media usage so there was not a specific ask to keep it 1:1. I also engaged in concept design, motion design, and pre-visualization with an in-house production team and worked on the production end and final look and feel.

3

EDITORIAL PHOTO and VIDEO | TECHNICAL DIRECTION

I was in charge of directing and casting video talent including managing wardrobe, makeup consultants, pre-interviews, choreography, working with camera crews and also directing photography. On this project, I also stepped in to produce and help Pixelfire pair a 2-day shoot with Photography at VMG and video at Microsoft. I put together shooting schedules, shot lists, and storyboards for the camera direction and technical direction and also took the CG prep a step further by mapping out distances and step measurements for our makeshift chroma screen runway which nailed the perspective before we shot. Not an easy feat.

Moodboards presented from JVC for direction.

JVC made a mood board to eliminate extra ideas. They wanted a few different looks for each headphone style and gave us options to work with. The E-1 was a Millenial Future Style and we felt this was a great option for the video and photography.

Mobirise

We further combined B-1 with some of the shots for the couples and the web to keep it stylish and modern.
